In today's busy world there is a rising need for a space where we can unwind. With this in mind, I have chosen to design a parklet- an urban space accessible for passers by which can be located in the busy areas of the city right on the sidewalk, or a street, and that would not take up more space than two parked cars need.
After researching into Londoners' lifestyle I wanted to give them something that helps to pause and recharge, and does not require much time of their day either. The design promotes an opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of the busy streets rather than quickly move through them. It gives users a chance to play in the areas, which are usually seen as work territories only.
Looking into activities that help us do so I went out and observed how people play outside. I could not ignore something that was right in front of me this whole time. Swings. They were and still are a big part of many people’s childhood and as my research showed- brought great memories to many adults. With this in mind, I have chosen to base the design around it and help create an inviting, exciting and playful little oasis right in the heart of a city.
Parklet design is a modular green space which not only invites people of all ages to play and relax, but also helps monitor air pollution and fight against it with the help of air purifying plants. It is easy to assemble and take it apart, and does not require much manpower to be relocated. Also, sustainable urban drainage system means that greenery does not need to be looked after and there is no need for manual watering.

Parklet can be taken from one space...
... to another.
