A redesign for the MetLife building in Manhattan offers a new curtain wall system which promotes sustainability while preserving history. The facade allows for more natural daylight to come through as well as reduces glare and thus allows for more comfort inside.
The new wall system incorporates smart glass which responds to sun's movement and reduces glare. It adjusts its transparency without completely blocking the sun. Instead, sun leaves the window illuminated acting as a soft light source. Transparent solar glass generates green energy for the building and facade lighting. Together with smart glass it creates triple glazing, which increases building's efficiency and helps reduce noise.
